It is clear to me now that winter is the best and only time to make pretty pictures of lovers. Saturday, sunny (snowy) Sundridge was magnificent. Despite the slippery roads, the coolish temperature, boots filled with snow, and a frozen trigger finger – Trevor and Renee’s winter engagement session could not have been anymore delightful. On Saturday afternoon they packed their car and ventured south. I love shooting with clients in my neighbourhood. Not only does my sweet little town have great scenery (and the most beautiful fresh water lake in the world) but I already know all the best spots.

We ate a delicious lunch at Danny’s Justa Pasta, drove ALL over Sundridge, making sure to take secret, only locally known routes to sparkling forest locations. We shot well into sundown on Lake Bernard.

Trevor and Renee, I’m so looking forward to shooting you two again. Cheers to your April wedding in North Bay.

I photographed Kristin and Jon’s wedding this August, on Georgian Bay. It was apparent immediately that a huge part of their life together included many loved – “adopted” family members. Some of them as part of the Community Living Huronia family. One very special friend of theirs was Alan Kulson. Kristin and Jon spent holidays with him – this Christmas too, they took him out on dates, and included him in their loving family. Sadly he passed away on New Years Day. When I found out the news, upon writing their wedding blog post, I asked Kristin if we could publish an ode to her “brother” Alan. Here is what she she wanted share…

“Alan Kulson –

Alan always knew how to make us smile. He was a kind, sweet and loving man with an amazing sense of humour. He taught us to appreciate and love one another wholeheartedly. If we told him how much we cared for him he would always respond with “I know why, cause I’m cute” which just made us love him even more.

Alan would always have something funny to say and had many catch phrases. He knew the lyrics to every country song and it was a privilege when he put your name into a song.

So many wonderful memories of our dear friend Alan, he will always be with us in our hearts.”

Such a contrast between our first meeting downtown Toronto and their wedding day at his parent’s Fishing Lodge on the Montreal River. It was a mini Destination Wedding (in Northern Ontario) and we loved it so much. For the first time in 2 years my hubby, Jay joined me in shooting a wedding. I knew if I was going to get him working again it better be for something pretty spectacular. Once wee baby Charlie arrived in January of 2011 Jay became a full time-working-stay-at-home-on-weekends dad. A wedding, on an island, in Northern Ontario, at a fishing lodge was just the ticket. It’s always such a pleasure to shoot over an entire weekend.

As I’ve mentioned before, Loni and Ben are sweet, kind and understated. They love being together in the most authentic way-a true friendship and it’s such a joy to experience. Loni is a city girl who’s becoming more and more curious about a northerner’s life and Ben, well…Ben is a diehard Northerner already, who happens to live and work in Toronto. Before I met Ben I was told about his dramatic love of his hometown, nature, wilderness, and the outdoors (if you know my hubby you now know why this was the event for him!). I was not lied to. Some would say I live in the North (Muskoka)…but no, not like this. There is so much more to experience in Northern Ontario and many fewer people. If you’ve been to Haileybury you know about the expansive fresh water lakes, epic fishing (Ben tried to trick Loni and I into fishing all afternoon once, weeks before the wedding), you know all about the massive rock cliffs, the spruce forests and (all along the way) each delicious chip truck!

This wedding day was all about their friendships, their loving families and supportive friends, and most of all their love of one another and the North. Married on an island, sleeping at Fishing Lodge and partying under a red and white circus tent. Such a great weekend!

Cheers to you, Loni and Ben. It was an honour attending and photographing your wedding day.

I have waited WAY too long to blog this awesome beach wedding party!

Meet the sweet and soulful couple, Kristin and Jon. They found me by accident, we met when they were oh-so-sick, and it was love at second sight (I think because they may not have remembered our first sicky meeting?). As it turned out we knew a number of mutual Midland peeps and once they found out I was shooting for Jon…”Jonny Main”, they were thrilled. Everyone loves Jon. Not only do Jon and I have a collection of Midland friends in common but his Gram is from Sunny Sundridge, where I live. Finding K and J was meant to be. I just knew it!

This wedding day was nuts, amazing nuts.

Kristin was the most smiley-smiling bride I had ever seen. Ever. And brides are happy people as a rule. No one, however, has been more obviously-expressively-deliriously happy than Ms. Kristin. It was a perfect start (at the Charters Inn) to a Georgian Bay Wedding day.

It was a wedding at the beach, the family cottage in fact, overlooking the bay with a collection of curious kayaking onlookers. Jon’s dad married them, Jon’s mom toasted them and we all celebrated their union. From the beach, to the bridge, onto the tandem bike and a swinging rope, then deep into the sparking forest we ventured. It was my dream wedding afternoon, not gonna lie. I poked around in bare feet all day. MY DREAM WEDDING!

And then we danced. We danced all night at the brand new Midland Cultural Centre. Everyone danced. Jon and Kristin lead the pack through song after song. I couldn’t believe it, no breaks. Then Kristin drank tequila, her friends drank tequila, and then they all danced some more.

Big fat cheers to Kristin, Jon and their delightful families for celebrating love in the most memorable way I can think of.

Thanks to my invaluable and talented second shooter, Mr. Dave Sloan. Last year, 2012 would not have been the same without you.

Perhaps you experienced the incredible weather we had up here over the Thanksgiving weekend. Perhaps you didn’t? The skies over Lake Bernard in Sundridge were so dramatic. The most interesting I’ve ever seen. Alexa and Adrian still decided to wed on the pier at The Northridge Inn and Resort. As their photographer I could not have been happier about this decision. The winds blew through Alexa’s veil, the sun shone through perfectly on Adrian as he watched his bride walk down the aisle. It was awesome. What wasn’t so awesome…the hail, the snow, and the rain which began almost immediately following their ceremony. It was frigid! We barely made it through their family portraits, never mind a beautiful bridal session. Alas, as you may have seen, we were able to capture some pretty spectacular images (thanks to adventurous clients, beautiful skies, and willing family). And after all of that-we still wanted more. Monday of the long weekend we got all dressed up and did it again. This time the sun was hot (ish), the skies were blue, and the forest was vibrant. This is what we came up with! Enjoy.Best Muskoka Photographer
