Another stellar day for a photo shoot in the Bahamas! We are so lucky to be here, travelling these beautiful islands. Today though, my husband and I got to travel by boat from Paradise Island to Rose Island just 10 miles off the coast. At the risk of sounding like a school girl (I usually do), OMGEEEE! The ocean is blue, yes, but this ocean is a brilliant piercing blue. More brilliant than any other piece of the planet I’ve ever seen. It’s spectacular.

And not only were we lucky enough to experience Rose Island before our departure we had the pleasure of meeting for the first time, and shooting, Christie and her fiance Andy. Originally from the Ottawa area, these two beauties met eight years ago, began having (what they imagined were) lofty and fantastical dreams of cruising the ocean. “Maybe even the Bahamas?!”, they would muse. Today though, two years after realizing their dreams they’re planning their wedding for May…on Rose Island with all the people they love most.

J and I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.

Sweet, lovely Becky and Leo. Where to begin? I have some history with Becky…my aunt DiDi is married to her daddio Doug. I didn’t grow up knowing Becky but I did know of her. Ironically this connection was unknown to her hubby when he contacted me to shoot their wedding Downtown Ottawa. And at the time I had no idea Leo belonged to Becky, who belonged to Doug, who belonged to DiDi. And I have to admit when the groom half of a bride/groom couple contacts me about Wedding Photography I often check in regarding the brides ideas and wishes. Eventually Leo and I worked out all the details of Wedding Photography…it took us a little while to figure out the connections but we managed. I think once Becky knew who Leo was communicating with she laid it all out. Such a nice surprise.

One of the best memories I have of Becky and this wedding was the weekend I met with her last spring to visit Notre Dame Basilica in Ottawa. As we happened to have some common family and, as it turned out, common interest we spent a weekend downtown Montreal shopping and eating. It was divine! We may have even ventured into the famous little club, Le 281. Some of you may have heard of such a place, others may not be so lucky. Anyway, the memories we created at Le 281 on rue Sainte-Catherine are better suited to less wedding-y, more boudoir-y kinds of blogs posts. I’ll leave that to another day.

Back to their beautiful wedding day. Jay and I started early, Jay at Notre Dame Basilica and I at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with becky and family. It was a great morning, but man were we rushed! Once we made it to Notre Dame all was well again. As you can see Becky is pretty much over the moon…

It was a sunny, hot June wedding day Downtown Ottawa…so fun, so much energy, so many loving people. From capturing the dramatic detail of Notre Dame Basilica, to shooting Becky and Leo at Planet Coffee where they were engaged, and finally getting to shoot the group of them partying into the evening at the Crowne Plaza. It was a wicked night.

What a privilege to shoot for Rachel and Mike! Shooting a wedding is always so much fun, I really do love this work…but shooting a wedding for people you know is pretty darn special. Although I had not seen Rachel in years we met first in Brampton in grade six or seven, I think? We grew up together, just around the corner from one another actually. After middle school we went to different high schools but remained friends. This meant attending her wedding was a great big high school reunion for me. Jay and I spent the morning with the girls at Rachel and Mike’s home in Toronto then ventured downtown to Rachel’s favourite park for the big reveal and a bunch a group photos. We always find shooting an evening wedding so relaxing. This is exactly how I’d describe their entire wedding day.

Here is a small selection of my favourites from their Toronto Wedding day at Berkeley Church. Until now the only images I’ve shared online have been their Thank You card picks…glad to finally be sharing these since it was a such a beautiful wedding to photograph…way back in April!

Congratulations to my sweet and wonderful old friend Rachel and her lovely hubby, Mike.

This Muskoka wedding was AMAZING! Jen and Paul came to me though a friend early last year, we met at the barn in South River, just North of Huntsville, Ontario. Construction, or should I say re-construction had just begun…we were chatting about wedding photography amoung hay bales and horses. After more than a year of hard work and hard planning these two and their families put on a great party. Jay and I loved every moment.

It’s been a true joy getting to Jen & Paul and Jen’s family, who live just “around the corner” from us, over the last couple of years.

I think this will have to be two partner…

Part One, the Barn…so lovely it deserves it’s own post!

WOW-WOW-WOW! Can I just say…wow. This day was awesome. I do say that about every wedding (because every wedding is)…but holy smokes this was so cool. You may know this if you read this blog,  Jay and I are pretty much in love with Liz and Cheryl. They are our cousins and avid subjects. To date we have captured them on 3 separate occasions; engagement,  wedding shower, wedding,  oh wait…and at Amy and Tammy’s weddings.

So there are many photos to share…because many things happened. First we took the 1030am ferry to Toronto Island where we walked (or road our bikes) to the far side. We arrived at Gibralar Point, each received a birch bark canoe with a homemade beeswax candle, then we walked through a very bushy path where Feist, Hawksley and other fabulous music was coming from. Each of us chose our places on  bright orange and yellow beach blankets. Imagine a crystal blue sky, sparkling water as the eye can see and the annual regatta…100 incredible sailboats making their way past us. A flawless day. We released our handcrafted canoes, sent a blessing out to “sea”, and released monarch butterflies. Dreamy. We ate in the garden said our thank yous and I love yous and played on the beach. It was truly a day to remember.

P.S. Not only did Jay and I get to spend the day with some of favourite people, doing what we love…we also celebrated our first anniversary. As I mentioned to Liz and Cheryl’s guests we could not imagine a more meaningful way to spend our first wedding anniversary that to be with the women we love. They have been beautiful role models for us in our own adventure through love.

We were so blessed to have this opportunity. A long weekend in Toronto, eating at our fave Korean place (Bloor and Clinton), shooting the most wonderful wedding on Toronto Island, enjoying our family, and simply loving life.

Enjoy the magic!
