Sweet, lovely Becky and Leo. Where to begin? I have some history with Becky…my aunt DiDi is married to her daddio Doug. I didn’t grow up knowing Becky but I did know of her. Ironically this connection was unknown to her hubby when he contacted me to shoot their wedding Downtown Ottawa. And at the time I had no idea Leo belonged to Becky, who belonged to Doug, who belonged to DiDi. And I have to admit when the groom half of a bride/groom couple contacts me about Wedding Photography I often check in regarding the brides ideas and wishes. Eventually Leo and I worked out all the details of Wedding Photography…it took us a little while to figure out the connections but we managed. I think once Becky knew who Leo was communicating with she laid it all out. Such a nice surprise.

One of the best memories I have of Becky and this wedding was the weekend I met with her last spring to visit Notre Dame Basilica in Ottawa. As we happened to have some common family and, as it turned out, common interest we spent a weekend downtown Montreal shopping and eating. It was divine! We may have even ventured into the famous little club, Le 281. Some of you may have heard of such a place, others may not be so lucky. Anyway, the memories we created at Le 281 on rue Sainte-Catherine are better suited to less wedding-y, more boudoir-y kinds of blogs posts. I’ll leave that to another day.

Back to their beautiful wedding day. Jay and I started early, Jay at Notre Dame Basilica and I at the Crowne Plaza Hotel with becky and family. It was a great morning, but man were we rushed! Once we made it to Notre Dame all was well again. As you can see Becky is pretty much over the moon…

It was a sunny, hot June wedding day Downtown Ottawa…so fun, so much energy, so many loving people. From capturing the dramatic detail of Notre Dame Basilica, to shooting Becky and Leo at Planet Coffee where they were engaged, and finally getting to shoot the group of them partying into the evening at the Crowne Plaza. It was a wicked night.

Oh, Jon and Charlotte! How I love theeeeeeee…well, I was lucky enough to get in another little Ottawa weekend before summer is over. J & C will be married in Muskoka but will be living in Ottawa full time after the wedding. We had not yet met, which is usually the case pre pre-wedding. Charlotte was painting nails and Jon was waiting patiently went I arrived. We chatted, and planned, and did a little dreaming. When it was time to leave they began packing! I get REALLY excited when couples “pack” for a photoshoot. It means we’re doin’ it up right! Costume changes, posy posing, lovey loving, and location, location, location. I knew we were meant to be when Jon began packing the bag and Charlotte told me how wonderful, creative, and organized he his! We went everywhere, we shot for hours from Capitol Hill, to the Market, and then back along the Canal.

Pre-wedding sessions are so important to me! I can’t stress this enough, getting to shoot with a couple before the wedding teaches each of us so much. I learned that Jon and Charlotte are uber silly and very sweet. They love to play and pose and ham it up a little. It was awesome. They are awesome!

Cheers to J & C and there HUGE wedding party of fun on Sept 26. I anticipate jumping, wading, golfing, laughing, running, and maybe even some boating! Can’t wait. I really love my job. Jon and Charlotte, I had a perfect day!

I won’t write too much about this one. There isn’t so much to say. Here is a peak at a series I did for Angie and her son Kristian in Ottawa. We took a few moments and ran around this awesome window…while the rest of the group picked up cars (corvettes), signed out of work, and decided on dinner we enjoyed cuddling Kristian. Cheers to the incredibly dramatic and uninterested Kristian.

Dawn and I had a blast shooting this Graduation series. I think at one point I said “I could shoot this all night”. Her response was “I could pose all night”. That is the most fabulous thing about shooting teenagers, they can pose forever! I loved it. I always knew Graduation Photography would be a blast, the drama and excitement young men and women exude is incredible. Their willingness to indulge in themselves and the moment, its something I wish I could teach every subject in the snap of my fingers or the click of a shutter. With Dawn there was nothing to teach, she was just in the moment. Avoiding homework, playing in the Barbie Jeep, in her Grandfather’s Corvette, and in the middle of the night no less. I hope I can do this again and again…perhaps in a few years with her equally as beautiful younger sister Holly. Between now and then though, I’m offering 2009 High school, College, and Uni grads a $250.00 {Graduate in Style} package. An opportunity to capture the drama of a last year with style and grace.

Here’s to Dawn in that fabulous puffy pink and white thang and to high school graduation! What a ride she’s in for.

{Family Portraits in Ottawa, Ontario, 1/3}

Last weekend I was running all over the place. Alas I caught the flu…which gives me lots of time to blog! But before that I was lucky enough to shoot a cousin’s family gathering. This group is spread from Ottawa to Montreal and wanted to gather representing all generations, all family combination, and all phases of the Lagace life. I love family photography especially when we can get a little creative. Happy people, cute babies, beautiful teenagers, sports cars, and interesting back drops are all keys to success. This was a little chaotic, I must admit. About 15 before we began shooting we almost changed locations…but I knew the SportPlex would be a great spot to create some interesting imagery. Then Grandpa, who went to pick up the beautiful Holly got a lost, then by the time everybody arrived we had just about 20 minutes until Dawn was to leave for work. Pure chaos…pure beautiful wonderful energizing chaos.

This was the first of a few shoots I was doing for the Lagace/Faithfull crowd…we’ll call this post one of three. I think I was shooting from about 4pm to 11pm. I had a great time and will heading back to Ottawa in July for and Engagement shoot in the Market.

Family Photography Packages begin at $250.00 for a single family shoot. The day is collaborative and comprehensive…and the experience is always on to remember.
