Grown up sisters… These relationships are special, so special and unique. Loving. Supportive… You know… But it would seem the combination of Muskoka cottage holidays, new husbands, wedding anniversaries, happy parents, a bossy photographer and a few cocktails throws families into a wild tail spin of shenanigans. This grown-up group was a pleasure to photograph. I’m not sure that I’ve said it recently but Cottage Sessions on the lake, any lake are really my favourite!Gravenhurst Family Photographers Gravenhurst Family Photographers Gravenhurst Family Photographers Bala Family Photographers Bala Family Photographers Bala Family Photographers Muskoka Family Photographers Muskoka Family Photographers Muskoka Family Photographers Bracebridge Family Photographers Bracebridge Family Photographers

This is our beautiful Wendy-Bird. She is kind, open-hearted, full of joy and silly jokes. She is honest and the most ‘be yourself’ kind of person I know. I say she is ‘our’ Wendy because I feel like part of her is with us (my family) all the time. No matter the physical distance between her and I, she is there. Wendy worked her yoga magic to prepare my scared little body for labour, she came to us in the middle of a cold winter night. She and my mom rubbed and massaged, and moaned along with me in the back-seat nest they created for our trip to the hospital. And after a long, long 24 hours of serious, dramatic, painful, wild, hard, active labour she helped me (along with my entire family – husband, sister, mom, dad, and nephew) welcome my wee CheeChee into the world. Charlie and I did mom and baby yoga until he was more interested in her Ganesh and Buddha collection than hanging out with me. My son now calls her ‘Wendy-Bird’ and refers to her often. Last week him and I  rolled out the yoga mats, in the living room and practiced a little sun salutation. He wondered why we were doing such things without Wendy-Bird. His downward dog is much more respectable than mine. So far he’s still enjoying those loose toddler ligaments and muscles. He’s not yet faced with his momma’s tight hamstrings. He still touches her colourful tattoos, now full of curious questions instead of just questioning looks. We’ve created an incredible set of memories. and I cherish them all. Love to you. xoxox

You’ve met Elsie and family before, I shot her a number of times and her beautiful parents have been long time clients…and now friends. It was so much fun to head out to their cottage and photograph them again. This family holds a very special place in my heart. Here is our morning in Muskoka with Elsie and her fam.

This was a very special shoot. J.S. is very special client. We took our time planning for this one.

J. S. and I messaged back and forth multiple times but once I was really able to understand what J was facing we were able to gently move forward.

After our session, after another long chat in her sun-room and after I had looked through all her images I asked her to do something that I hadn’t asked anyone else to do. I asked her to write this blog post. She mulled it over and then one day she sent this to me…

“Pregnancy can come with so many miracles and celebrations, but like all of life’s great steps, it’s an incredibly ordinary experience complete with anxieties, fears and discomforts. What’s “not normal” is the new “normal.” This new pilgrimage, as much as I hoped would be well planned and finely executed like the blogs, books and experiences of others laid out in week-by-week stages, was full of surprises – physically, emotionally and spiritually. I spent the first half of my pregnancy with my head spinning at the seismic rearrangement of my body and mind.
The well-intentioned comments and questions from strangers about my pregnancy were overwhelming, especially when I wasn’t feeling so connected with myself or with the little bit of life twitching inside of me.
Kate, you were able to respect that we all approach our impending motherhood in different ways. I felt able to quietly celebrate and connect with my pregnancy whilst you captured every emotion I was truly feeling during this time. “

This is the personal message she shared with me about our experience together…

“Thank you again for such a lovely morning. That day was a turning point in my pregnancy and I wasn’t sure if the ‘high’ was only going last for the afternoon or the weekend (or if I was just in such a good mood because of the spring weather!) A month later, and I’m still feeling it – I can finally celebrate my pregnancy, the energy I’m feeling is incredible and I’m (mostly) comfortable with the never-ending changes in my body.”

From the shores of Lake Ontario to the shores of Lake Nipissing Wedding. This is Oakville engagement session. Gotta love that sparkling-sunshiny-kinda love.Toronto Wedding & Engagement Photographer
