Holly Cole in Midland was fantastic!

I attended a beautiful gala fundraiser hosted by Community Living Huronia last weekend. I was lucky enough to have exclusive photographic access to all the excitement. What a night! Completely sold out, red carpet, even a few “paparazzi”…what a show! The entire evening was a complete success. The energy was great. And the cause very meaningful.

Thank you for a such a beautiful experience and congratulations to CLH Midland. You hosted an impressive evening.

Here are a few more of my favourites from the night, head over to the gallery for a few more.

I work 2 days/week for an awesome little place on the edge of Algonquin Park. Northern Edge Algonquin is an eco-retreat centre at the North West corner/Access point 1 of Algonquin. Thursday I ventured out to the lake and shot all day…I started off with a little food photography in the kitchen with Greg (who is an incredible cook), then followed one of our groups as they readied for their trip into the park (those I’ll post to our Edge blog later). PS My fave food magazine is SAVEUR…always an incredible source of inspiration for beautiful gourmet food photography fabulousness. Here are my fave shots of G-Money in the garden then in the kitchen…yum, yum.

Enjoy.

WOW! Had an awesome time this week at our Video Production course. The Near North Mobile Media Lab out of North Bay (N2M2L fan page), Ontario came to South River for the day and taught us everything they possibly could about Vid Prod in 2 short days. We were split in 2 groups and charged with the task of making a little commercial. Ours turned into a 2 minute fiasco about the Spirits of South River. We had a blast and I learned a tonne form Lieanne and Holly. They were great. Looking forward to some v creative partnerships in the near future. As I’ve already mentioned my sister and fiance have been home from Nunavut for a couple of weeks. Well last eve we had a nice little party, caught up with some old friends and made some new plans. This morning the group of us ventured to the East Shore of Lake Bernard to visit our old stomping ground. My sister and I, her fiance, and my husband have all worked at the “Girls Camp” at some point over the past years. It’s rare we get a glimpse into the secret winter life of camp. It’s such a treat to walk through the property. The owner and “groundskeeper” (for lack of a better term) have remained true to the camps mission of living lightly. I had the honour of running their Earth Education program for two years (see image below). GBC is such a forward thinking company, the time, energy, and planning they’ve put into creating a “green living” experience for campers is commendable.

Here are a few shots of the afternoon…As a side note I’ve really enjoyed taking picture just for the sake of shooting. It’s been a little while.

I finally made myself take some of those painfully difficult-for shameless self promotion-self portraits. I am working from home more often now and found myself with some time on Wednesday. As KHI Photography I find it so easy to take great pictures of OTHER people. Whether I’m photographing lovers or musicians I usually move forward with some sort of shared vision. But, man…self portraits are a bitch. I tried the char, the stool, scarf, no scarf…blah blah…I didn’t have too much time so I didn’t even bother setting up the connection between camera and computer. I just thought I’d get it all done super quickly. Yeah right.

Well, this is what I ended up with…me with QL 17 in front of face, over to the side, and in focus…out of about 100 shots these are my fave. As a side note I couldn’t tell but I think some photographer friends of mine were making fun of my choice of props. I must confess, the Canonet QL 17 is just a prop, I don’t use it…its pretty much a neat looking (broken) camera/prop.

Anyway…for you local readers (Muskoka, Parry Sound, Almaguin) keep an eye out for the Women in Business 2009 Supplement in the Almaguin News. These shots were not in vain…February 14 the supplement will come out and at least one of these shots will be put to good use.
