This is our beautiful Wendy-Bird. She is kind, open-hearted, full of joy and silly jokes. She is honest and the most ‘be yourself’ kind of person I know. I say she is ‘our’ Wendy because I feel like part of her is with us (my family) all the time. No matter the physical distance between her and I, she is there. Wendy worked her yoga magic to prepare my scared little body for labour, she came to us in the middle of a cold winter night. She and my mom rubbed and massaged, and moaned along with me in the back-seat nest they created for our trip to the hospital. And after a long, long 24 hours of serious, dramatic, painful, wild, hard, active labour she helped me (along with my entire family – husband, sister, mom, dad, and nephew) welcome my wee CheeChee into the world. Charlie and I did mom and baby yoga until he was more interested in her Ganesh and Buddha collection than hanging out with me. My son now calls her ‘Wendy-Bird’ and refers to her often. Last week him and I  rolled out the yoga mats, in the living room and practiced a little sun salutation. He wondered why we were doing such things without Wendy-Bird. His downward dog is much more respectable than mine. So far he’s still enjoying those loose toddler ligaments and muscles. He’s not yet faced with his momma’s tight hamstrings. He still touches her colourful tattoos, now full of curious questions instead of just questioning looks. We’ve created an incredible set of memories. and I cherish them all. Love to you. xoxox
